Members of the Armored Police Battalion (APBn) seized ten foreign pistols, ten rounds of ammunition and 136 bottles of Phencidyl from a vegetable-laden truck on the Bogura-Santahar road near Kahaloo upazila's Bhagdubra Eidgah ground at 4pm on Wednesday.
The truck driver, a helper and one passenger were also detained at the time.
"Based on secret information, the battalion members started searching the truck at that place as we came to know that a large consignment of arms will go to Dhaka this way", APBn Bogra Captain Zainul Abedin confirmed this to The Business Post.
The detainees are- Kabil Hossain, 32, the truck driver and son of Babu Mandal of Keshabpur village in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat, Seven Hossain, 30, the helper and son of Azizul Haque of Kartikahat village in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon and Choton Mia, 24, the passenger and son of Rafiqul Islam of Vatsha-Lalipara village in Sadar upazilla of Joypurhat.
Upon suspicion, a search of Choton's travel bag turned up the arms, ammunition and drugs, APBn Captain Abedin said.
During preliminary interrogation, Choton said that he had boarded the truck from Beragram in Bogura's Dupchanchia area to go to Dhaka. At that time, a person, giving him the bag, told him that another person would take the travel bag from him in Gazipur.
Legal action will be taken against the detainees, said Zia Latiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Kahaloo Police Station.
