General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, chief of staff of Bangladesh Army, called on Turkey’s Defence Industries Minister Ismail Demer and Deputy Minister of National Defence Muhsin Dere on Thursday.

The Army chief during both visits said the armies of Turkey and Bangladesh had long-standing strategic partnerships and cultural bonds, reads a press release by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Saturday.

He expressed hope that the relationship would be strengthened further after his latest visit.

General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed is currently on an eight-day official visit to Turkey on the occasion of the International Defence Fair-2021.

He said this visit would open new opportunities for cooperation between the military forces, particularly the armies of the two countries.

He thanked both Ismail Demer and Muhsin Dere for inviting him and his delegation to the fair, said the release.

Turkey’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Muhsin Dere during the meeting assured the Bangladesh delegation of his country’s commitment to cooperate and support Bangladesh with military equipment, training of army personnel and exchange of technology.

Defence Industries Minister Ismail Demer said he would look into all the ongoing issues with Bangladesh on behalf of his country and provide the necessary support so that the defence cooperation between the two countries would be more friendly and beneficial in future.

On Friday, Army Chief Shafiuddin visited different stalls at an exhibition for the International Defence Fair-2021. He also talked to many defence experts on the occasion of the fair.

He is scheduled to visit Turkey’s army chief and the chief of general staff after the conclusion of the defence fair.

The army chief will return home on August 26.
