Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on Saturday visited the Khurushkul shelter project under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army at Khurushkul Union in Cox's Bazar.

The army chief inquired into the progress of the construction work of the project and provided necessary directions to the concerned authorities, an ISPR release said.

Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) of the Army Lieutenant General Walker-uz-Zaman, Quarter Master General (QMG) Lieutenant General M Saiful Alam and Chief Consultant General Major General FM Zahid Hossain, were present, among others during the inspection.

The army chief said that the Khurushkul shelter project, one of the priority projects of the prime minister, has the main goal to rehabilitate 3808 landless families due to climate change effects and expansion of Cox's Bazar Airport.

The project was approved at the ECNEC meeting on November 24 in 2020. One of the main features of the project is to construct a total of 119 five-storied buildings with pile foundation.

In addition, various facilities including places of worship, cyclone shelters, playgrounds and clean water supply are being constructed under this project.

The project is being implemented by 34 Engineer Construction Brigade of the Bangladesh Army.

The project is expected to be completed by June 2023.

General Shafiuddin later toured various developmental activities of the Army at Himchhari adjacent to Inani and Marine Drive, inquired about the current progress of the work and gave necessary directions to the concerned persons.
