Army chief Gen SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on Monday left for the US on an official visit at the invitation of the US Army.

During his visit from April 20-22, the army chief will meet with senior military officials, including the chief of staff and chief of the national guard, and senior civilian figures at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, according to a statement of the Inter-Service Public Relations Department.

General SM Shafiuddin will be included in the Hall of Fame as a graduate of Near East South Asia Centre of the National Defence University. He will also attend a roundtable discussion on the regional security situation in South Asia.

On April 25-26, the army chief is expected to meet the leading personnel at the Department of Safety and Security, Department of Operational Support, and Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs at the UN Headquarters in the US.

He will return to the country on April 27.
