Bangladesh Army is to deploy troops for conducting intensified patrols in the government-declared red zone areas.
Inter-Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) unveiled the information in a press release on Tuesday.
Army patrols in the red zones are being intensified to ensure proper compliance with government directives regarding restricting movement of people in order to contain the spread of Covid-19, reads the statement signed by Rashedul Alam Khan, Assistant Director of ISPR.
ISPR director Abdullah bin Zayed said, "We have received instructions. The army will coordinate with other government administrations and work with the people in the red zone areas."
According to the new order issued by the cabinet division on Monday, the government decided to enforce general holidays only in the red zones out of the three zones.
Initially, the government said there would be general holidays in the red and yellow zones, but later the cabinet division amended the order.
Earlier, following the recommendations by the national technical committee formed to tackle the spread of the novel coronavirus, the authorities categorised 45 areas in the Dhaka city as 'red zones' over coronavirus infection.
Of those, 17 areas are under Dhaka North City Corporation and 28 are under Dhaka South City Corporation. Additionally, 11 areas in the port city of Chattogram, the entire Gazipur district, and few areas of Narayanganj and Narsingdi have also been identified as red zones.
