Arrest warrant issued against Ctg businessman Samrat

A Chattogram court has issued an arrest warrant against Siddique Traders owner Abu Sayed Chowdhury Samrat in a loan default case filed by Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL).

Judge Mujahidur Rahman of the Chattogram Artha Rin Adalat passed the order on Sunday following a petition submitted by the bank over loan defaults amounting to around Tk 12 crore, said the court’s Bench Assistant Md Rezaul Karim.

DBBL filed the case against Sayed Foods Ltd, an organisation of Siddique Traders, in 2013 to realise loans around Tk 6.51 crore which has stood now around Tk 12 crore with a 12 per cent interest rate, Rezaul said.

Previously, the bank could not auction twice the confiscated properties of Sayed Foods, he said, adding that an arrest warrant has been issued against the owner as Sayed Foods failed to repay the loans despite it submitted petitions seeking time.

In January, the finance minister unveiled in parliament the name of Abu Sayed Chowdhury Samrat as one of the top loan defaulters. Siddique Traders owed different banks more than Tk 1,500 crore.
