Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Teknaf issued arrest warrants against nine people on Wednesday night, including Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das, in connection with the murder of retired army officer Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Administrative Officer Mohammad Ashek Elahi Shahjahan Noori confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
A copy of the order issued by Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Tamanna Farah, along with relevant documents, was sent to Teknaf Model Police Station around 8:45pm on Wednesday, he said.
The case filed in the Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court seeking a trial for the murder of Major (retd) Sinha was filed as a regular case at the Teknaf Model Police Station around 10:30 pm on Wednesday, police sources said.
As soon as the case was filed, arrest warrants were issued against all the accused in the case.
The accused are - OC Pradip Kumar Das, who was withdrawn from Teknaf Police Station, Inspector Liakat Ali, who was withdrawn from Baharchhara Shamlapur Police Investigation Center, Sub-Inspector (SI) Nandalal Rakshit, SI Tutul, Assistant Sub-Inspector Liton Miah, Constable Safanur Karim, Constable Kamal Hossain, Constable Abdullah Al Mamun and Constable Md Mostafa.
The accused against whom arrest warrants were issued have been withdrawn from their previous workplaces and are now attached to the police line.
The case will now be referred to RAB-15 from Teknaf Model Police Station for investigation as it has been filed as a regular case as per the order of Acting Judge Tamanna Farah of Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court. After that, RAB-15 will have to investigate the case and submit a report to the court within seven working days.
Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, who was killed in a 'gunfight' with police on July 31, filed the case on Wednesday morning.
Ten people, including Major (retd) Sinha's accomplice Shahedul Islam Sifat, an accused in the case filed by Teknaf police in the July 31 incident, have been named witnesses.
