An assistant sub-inspector of police was killed on Friday after being hit by a microbus carrying liquor in the Chandgaon area of Chattogram.
The deceased, Kazi Mohammad Salauddin from Laxmipur, was stationed at Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP)'s Chandgaon police station.
A constable named Masum was also injured in the incident. He is currently undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Chandgaon police Inspector (Investigation) Rajesh Barua confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
He said the microbus was signalled by ASI Salauddin to stop based on a tip-off that distilled liquor was being transported in a microbus to Chattogram city. However, instead of stopping, it ran over Salauddin then fled.
“Doctors declared Salauddin dead when he was taken to the CMCH,” Rajesh said.
After the microbus crushed the ASI, police chased and seized the abandoned vehicle with 730 litres of distilled liquor in it, he added.
