The asphalt paving of the viaduct of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge has begun on Wednesday.

Already some 60 meters of the viaduct has been completed and the asphalt paving of the main bridge will start from October 30.

Earlier on October 3, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the Padma Bridge will be opened for vehicular movement by June 2022 the work progress of the main structure of the bridge is now around 95 per cent while the progress of river training stood at 85.25 per cent.

The overall progress of the Padma Bridge construction project is 88 per cent, he added.

He also added that seven rehabilitation sites have been constructed at both ends of Padma Bridge.

"A total of 3011 residential plots of the rehabilitation sites, 2,963 plots have been allotted so far and among the allotted plots, a total of 814 have been allotted among the landless free of cost."

Total 100 commercial plots, 81 plots have been allocated while of 120 commercial spaces, 72 spaces have been allotted so far, he said.
