Health minister Zahid Maleque has said that within a period of seven days, between August 7 to 14, at least once crore will be vaccinated in a festive atmosphere across the country.
This vaccination programme will be conducted at all administrative levels across the country, the minister said at the inaugural event of the first class of new MBBS students.
He was the chief guest at the event held at BCPS Auditorium in the capital’s Mohakhali on Sunday.
“Priority will be given to senior citizens and people will be able to get jabbed using voter ID cards and, in some cases, even by a simpler process,” the minister said.
Countering various criticisms of the country's health sector, the health minister said the government created 650 laboratories and 17-18 thousand hospital beds within a short period of time.
Measures have been taken to supply oxygen across the country, including increasing the number of ICU and HDU units, he added.
Moreover, he said that the country's economy is doing better than many other countries in this difficult time due to the health sector’s good services.
