Asadul Islam, the key accused in the case filed over the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father, has been handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dinajpur police early Sunday.
Imam Jafar, officer-in-charge of DB and the investigation officer of the case, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
Asadul will be produced before the court today (Sunday) and a remand plea will be filed for him, said the DB official.
Police detained Asadul from his sister’s residence in Kaliganj area of Dinajpur’s Hakimpur upazila at the early hours of Friday. Later, he was taken to the deputy inspector general (DIG) office of Rangpur Range police.
He was given treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) after he fell sick.
UNO Wahida Khanam was seriously injured in the attack carried out at her Ghoraghat residence in Dinajpur early Thursday. Her father also suffered injuries in the attack.
Later, the UNO was airlifted to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force MI-171SH helicopter.
She is currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital in Dhaka and her father is admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
On Friday, her brother Sheikh Farid filed a case with Ghoraghat police station against unnamed people, over the incident. Law enforcers have so far arrested eight people in the case.
