Writer, researcher, news anchor, and lexicographer Professor Ghulam Murshid passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un). Golam Murshid died at Queen’s Hospital in London on Thursday at 4pm Bangladesh time. He was 85 years old.

According to family sources, at the time of death, Dr Golam Murshid was accompanied by his wife Eliza Murshid and daughter Bipasha Gargi Murshid (Amita). His son Panini Murshid (Antu) is currently staying in America.

Ghulam Murshid will be laid to eternal rest in London after Antu reaches London.

Ghulam Murshid was born on April 8, 1940. He worked as a newsreader and anchor for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). But Ghulam Murshid is particularly discussed for his book “Thousand Years of Bengali Culture.”

He is also famous for his research on the lives of Michael Madhusudan Dutt and Kazi Nazrul Islam.

In 2021, he received the Ekushey Padak, the second highest civilian honor of Bangladesh in the language and literature category. For a long time he was living a retired life in London. He was a former professor of Bengali literature at Rajshahi University.
