The average life expectancy of Bangladeshis dropped to 72.3 years in 2021, compared to 72.8 years in 2020, due to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

These are the findings of a Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) survey titled “Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2021,” published on Monday in a programme in the capital. The life expectancy is now 70.6 years for males and 74.1 years for females.

In 2020, the life expectancy of men was 71.2 years and that of women was 74.5 years. Planning Minister MA Mannan attended the programme as the chief guest, while State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam attended as a special guest.
