The Bangabandhu Bridge over Jamuna River has so far collected Tk 6,434.03 crore as toll in the last 23 years.

“The loan taken from development partners for constructing the bridge will be paid off by 2034,” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told parliament on Sunday during a question-answer session.

He said the money collected as toll was spent on the bridge’s maintenance and repayment of loan.

Since its inauguration, Tk 4,104.21 crore was spent on the bridge’s operations, maintenance, and debt service liability payment, Quader said while replying to a question forwarded by Jatiya Party parliamentarian Shameem Haider Patwary.

Tk 3,745.6 crore was spent on the construction of the bridge, he added.

“According to the amortisation schedule, as the foreign exchange rate has become more than double, the loans would be paid off by 2034 with the collected toll,” the minister said.
