Bangabandhu enacted child rights act even before UN: FBCCI president

With a view to protecting children and ensuring their rights, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman enacted the Children Act in 1974, some 15 years ago the United Nations declared the Convention on the Rights of the Child, FBCCI president has said.

“Keeping in mind that children are the future leaders in building the newly independent Bangladesh, Bangabandhu gave importance to protect the rights of children,” Md Jashim Uddin said on Thursday.

He was addressing the welcome speech on the second day of the 16-day gala celebration titled “Bijoyer 50 Bochhor: Laal Shobujer Mohotshob”, organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The event was held at the amphitheatre in Hatirjheel of the capital.

The FBCCI president said that due to Bangabandhu's far-reaching thoughts, the children of that time have become the guides to take today's Bangladesh forward.

“Today's children also need to learn from Bangabandhu's philosophy of life. They must love the country and be prepared to take the country forward.”

Jashim Uddin said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to build a better future for the children following the path of Bangabandhu.

At the event, Education Minister Dipu Moni was present as the chief guest.

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Affairs Adviser Salman F Rahman, former FBCCI president Mahbubur Rahman, and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, among others, were present.
