The Jatir Janak Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of Dhaka University (DU) celebrated the 102nd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation in the early hours of Thursday.

The event, organized jointly by the hall administration and university Chhatra League, was celebrated by lighting candles on the hall premises and cutting a cake in the hall’s auditorium at 12:01am.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, BCL Central Committee President Al Nahian Khan Joy, Bangabandhu Hall Provost Prof Akram Hossain, Bangabandhu Hall Chhatra League President Md Mehedi Hasan Shanto, General Secretary Mahabubur Rahaman were present at the event.

Prof Akhtaruzzaman said, “We are lucky to have an opportunity to celebrate Bangabandhu’s 102nd birthday.”

Mahabubur Rahaman said, “This hall was established in the name of the Father of the Nation. Every year we celebrate the birthday of Bangabandhu flamboyantly. This year we will arrange a concert after holding a discussion meeting on the life of the Father of the Nation on March 22.

“Our hall doesn’t have any mural of Bangabandhu. So, we have decided to take initiatives to establish a mural of Bangabandhu on the hall premises as soon as possible and we will also hold a cricket tournament titled Bangabandhu Premier League.”

After the discussion, DU VC handed over the prizes to the winners of an essay competition.

Hasibul Hasan Hasib, a fourth-year student of DU’s Bangla Department got the first prize. Nurul Huda of the same department and Nafis Sadiq of Economics Department came second and third respectively.
