Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Sheikh Fazle Fahim has said Bangladesh could have reached its current economic position in the mid-eighties had Bangabandhu survived the August 15 assasination.
“Under the strong leadership of Bangabandhu, GDP growth in 1975 was 9.2 percent. Bangabandhu had sown the seeds of all kinds of development in the interest of the masses. Today, the people of the country are reaping its benefits,” he added.
He made the remarks while addressing a function on the occasion of National Mourning Day at FBCCI Icon Building on Saturday (August 15).
FBCCI held various programs on the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.
Food was distributed among the orphans and the poor, condolences were sent to the members of the General Assembly and prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the souls of all those killed on August 15, including the father of the nation.
