The launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-2 into space will be completed within the stipulated time, said Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Thursday.

The minister said this while addressing a discussion meeting on the second anniversary of the subscription of 'Bangabandhu-Satellite-1' by the country's private satellite TV channels organised by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) at a hotel in the capital.

"The Posts and Telecommunications Division has started to implement the three promises which made in the election manifesto, like launching of Bangabandhu Satellite 2 in space, launching of 5G networks and establishing the connection of the third submarine cable. These will be completed within the stipulated time," the minister said.

"With the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 in space, we have not only achieved the glory of being the 57th satellite launcher in the world but also provided uninterrupted satellite service by the technological support by our local talents in the last two years," he added.

Jabbar said that 2021 was the year of transformation of Bangladesh into a digital Bangladesh as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's declaration of Digital Bangladesh on December 12, 2008.

He noted that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had sown the seeds of digital Bangladesh, including establishing a satellite centre at Betbunia, acquiring membership of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Universal Postal Union (UPU), and establishing a T&T board, and introducing technology-based education.

Thanking TV channel owners for conducting broadcasting activities through this satellite, the minister said, "We are all proud to be able to use our country's satellites. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, all preparations have been completed for the country's second satellite launch within the stipulated time.”

The minister also emphasized friendly relations with Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) and television channels.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud spoke as the chief guest at the meeting while Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Kaikaus addressed it as special guest.

Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Afzal Hossain and Association of Television Channel Owners President Anjan Chowdhury also spoke, among others.

Dr Shahjahan Mahmud, BSCL Chairman presided over the programme.
