Speakers at a discussion on Saturday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a pioneer of world peace.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman pioneers the world peace. So, he was adorned with the JOLIOT-CURIE award,” they said.

They came up with the observation at the function organised for upholding the historical value of Bangabandhu's JOLIOT-CURIE award arranged by “JOLIOT-CURIE Bangabandhu Shishu Kishor Santi Sangsad” at Jatiya Press Club, reports BSS.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Independent Bangladesh, was awarded the Julio-Curie Peace Prize by the World Peace Council on May 23, 1973, for his glorious contribution to establishing a non-communal peaceful independent country and a terrorism-free peaceful society.

The World Peace Council has been adorning the award to distinguished individuals and organizations since 1950 to commemorate the contributions of world-renowned scientists Marie Curie and Pierre Curie to the struggle for world peace.

World leaders like Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Yasser Arafat, Salvador Allende, Nelson Mandela, Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa, poet and politician Pablo Neruda, Jawaharlal Nehru, Martin Luther King and Leonid Brezhnev were among the JOLIOT-CURIE awardees.

Speakers said Bangabandhu’s historical award will be a pathfinder for the young generations and his honour will be brightened in the history of mankind.

JOLIOT-CURIE Bangabandhu Shishu Kishor Santi Sangsad also arranged art competitions, discussions, cultural functions and prize distribution among the winners who participated in the art competitions at the function.

With Convener of the JOLIOT-CURIE Bangabandhu Shishu Kishor Santi Sangsad Lion Md Masum Ahammed in the chair, Founder and President JOLIOT-CURIE Bangabandhu Santi Sangsad Abdul Awal Bhuiyan, Prof Shelim Reza Sourov, Dr SM Emran Ali, Advocate Partho Chakraborty, Prof M A Mannan Monir, among others, spoke.
