The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam celebrated the 103rd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day 2023 on Friday.
The celebration started with the hoisting of the national flag. It proceeded with recitation from the Holy Quran, and a special prayer for the departed souls of Bangabandhu, his family members and other martyrs, followed by one-minute silence, read a press release.
Bangladesh High Commissioner Nahida Rahman Shumona paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at the portrait of the greatest Bengali of all time.
The programme continued with reading out the messages from the president, the prime minister, the foreign minister, and the state minister for foreign affairs.
On the occasion, a documentary on Bangabandhu was screened, focusing on his glorious life.
The event included the donation of books on Bangabandhu to the principal of Seri Mulia Sarjana International School. Certificates and tokens of appreciation were given to the La Vida representative, PG Wahab, Siti Kaprawi, and Jessy Lim from Mirra Hanna Employment Agency for sponsoring the event.
The event was also enlivened by the live painting led by PG Wahab and participated by the children of La Vida, ReLA and other students both from Brunei and Bangladesh communities.
In her speech, High Commissioner Nahida Rahman said the attribution of the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent nation to Bangabandhu is truly inspirational for people across all generations and regions in the world.
She said Bangabandhu’s love and affection for the children are also equally praiseworthy.
The high commissioner said Bangladesh is now a country which is widely recognised and appreciated for its socio-economic development, thanks to the strong and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the wise and worthy daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Yang Mulia Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal Bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, permanent secretary (sport), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
Bangladesh community members, ambassadors from Cambodia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Pakistan, Timor-Leste, and Iran, deputy heads of mission from Pakistan, Timor-Leste, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Indonesia, China, and Oman attended the event.
