Bangla Academy chairman and eminent folklorist Shamsuzzaman Khan passed away at a Dhaka hospital on Wednesday after being infected with COVID-19.
He breathed his last around 2:00pm at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.
Poet Pias Majid confirmed the matter to the media.
Shamsuzzaman Khan was also suffering from old-age complications.
He was put on life support at the BSMMU Hospital on Sunday as his condition deteriorated, said Pias.
President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Shamsuzzaman Khan.
