Bangladesh elected Chair of ILO Technical Committee on Covid-19

The International Labour Organization has elected Bangladesh as the Chair of a Technical Committee on Covid-19.

The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in Geneva issued a press release in this regard on Thursday.

The committee will steer negotiations for a draft outcome document which will be adopted in the upcoming 109th International Labour Conference (ILC) to be held virtually on June 3-19, reads the press release.

Ambassador and Permanent Representative Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Geneva will chair the negotiations.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) organised a long discussion in the quest for an inclusive, sustainable and human-centred recovery from the pandemic with the participation of the member states of the organisation.

The draft outcome document was formulated following the discussion.

Bangladesh played a leadership role as the Representative of the Asia Pacific Group in the drafting of the document.

With a view to seeking the views and consent of the member states on the draft Covid-19 outcome document, the final round of negotiation will take place prior to the upcoming ILC.
