Bangladesh and Kosovo on Tuesday signed an agreement on visa waiver for government officials and diplomats as both countries are working on a better bilateral relationship with an aim to boost trade.

The agreement was signed when Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and Kosovo’s visiting Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Kreshnik Ahmeti led their respective delegations to the first-ever foreign office consultations between the two countries at the state guesthouse Padma on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a media release in this regard.

The visiting deputy foreign minister praised the role of Bangladesh peacekeepers in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo during the meeting.

Several possible agreements or MoUs were also discussed for boosting bilateral relations between the two countries, it said.

Kreshnik Ahmeti arrived in Dhaka on Monday on a four-day official visit to explore options for better trade relations and other opportunities.

On Monday, Ahmeti held meetings with the FBCCI and DCCI representatives and discussed possibilities for increasing trade partnerships.

Bangladesh has established its diplomatic relationship with Kosovo in 2018 and the bilateral trade stood at only $0.31 million in 2020, which increased to $1.41 million in 2021.

Business leaders say Kosovo could be a good destination for Bangladeshi IT professionals, engineers and skilled workforce while the country can import garment and pharmaceuticals products from Bangladesh.
