Bangladesh logs 166 more Covid cases in a day, lowest since April 2020

Bangladesh recorded 166 coronavirus cases in a day till 8:00am on Saturday.

The number of fresh infections is the lowest since April last year.

On April 12, 2020, the country recorded 139 cases in a single day.

The daily infection rate declined to 1.25 per cent from Friday's 1.71 per cent.

With this, the test positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for nearly six weeks.

In Bangladesh, the daily infection rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

Meanwhile, the country registered eight new coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,69,328 and the total fatalities at 27,862 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 13,240 samples at 833 laboratories across the country.
Bangladesh has so far tested 1,03,32,644 samples.

Meanwhile, 181 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,33,147.

Among the fresh fatalities, six were males and two were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with four fatalities; followed by two in Khulna and one each in Chattogram, Sylhet.

Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Barishal divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
