Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad has said Bangladesh delegates will visit Malaysia on Sunday to sign a memorandum of understanding regarding manpower export.

Imran was speaking at a press conference on Friday at his office, marking the International Migrants Day-2021 to be observed on Saturday.

However, the minister refrained from making any further details on the contents of the MoU.

He said that migration costs will not increase and they will try to protect the rights of migrants.

Last week, the Malaysian government in a media statement said the country has agreed to sign a MoU with the Bangladesh authorities for resuming workers’ recruitment.

The announcement came after Malaysia decided to reopen its labour market for Bangladeshi workers after a suspension of over three years.

The statement said Bangladeshi workers’ recruitment would resume immediately after the MoU in all sectors, including plantations, agriculture, manufacturing, services, mining and quarrying, construction, and domestic work.

According to the statement, the Malaysian cabinet also agreed to defer the implementation of the multi-tier levy system for employing foreign workers from January 1 next year to July 1 so as not to burden employers.

Following the development, Minister Imran Ahmad told The Business Post that he hopes all the formalities in this regard will be completed within this month and start sending workers from January.
