Bangladesh observed "World Tourism Day 2024" under the initiative of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in alignment with global celebrations.

This year’s theme, established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, is "Tourism and Peace." Since its inception in 1980, this designated day has been celebrated with respect across member countries, promoting tourism worldwide.

On Friday morning, a lively rally was held at the "Tourism Building" in the capital’s Agargaon, according to a press release.

Participants included officials from the Ministry, the Tourist Police, and various government and private organizations, showcasing placards, banners, colourful balloons, and a band. The rally was inaugurated by Nasreen Jahan, Secretary of the Ministry.

The procession concluded at the Tourism Building, where a discussion highlighted the significance of World Tourism Day.

Dr Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman, senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, emphasized the need for targeted promotions to attract foreign tourists while developing local tourism. He underscored the importance of skilled human resources for the industry’s growth, suggesting that a strategic implementation could significantly enhance Bangladesh’s economic and social development.

Nasreen Jahan highlighted in her keynote address the tourism sector's substantial role in economic development, poverty alleviation, and job creation, calling on private entrepreneurs to help position Bangladesh as a premier tourist destination in Asia.

The discussion was chaired by AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik, Chairman of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, and featured remarks from Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Manzurul Kabir Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, DIG Abu Kalam Siddique of the Tourist Police, and Professor Dr. Shariful Alam Khondkar, Chairman of the Tourism and Hospitality Department at Dhaka University.
