Bangladesh not to get new batch of vaccine soon, says Indian High Commission

Bangladesh will not get Covid-19 vaccine from India any time soon due to internal demand and crisis of raw materials in India, says a note of the Indian High Commission.

The release mentioned of some key countries withholding raw materials needed for the production of the vaccine which has hit hard the supply commitment of the vaccine.

"India has been trying to meet its internal demand as well as obligations made under contractual agreements by Indian companies to produce more of the vaccines being manufactured at the Serum Institute of India, Pune and by other prominent vaccines manufacturers," said the release sent to Bangladesh foreign ministry.

As per a deal with India's Serum Institute and Bangladesh's Beximco, the Bangladesh government is supposed to get 50 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine every month. Bangladesh has so far received 70 lakh doses in two shipments under the contract from Serum so far.
