Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar, Md Monwar Hossain said that Bangladesh, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is moving on the right track to reach the goal of becoming a developed country by 2041, the Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal), as envisioned by the Father of the Nation.
He came up with remarks at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Yangon observing the Great Victory Day on Saturday at the Chancery in a befitting manner, read a press release.
The first part of the day-long programme included hoisting of the national flag, placing floral wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation, reading out of the messages given by the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Discussion Session. Second part, held in the afternoon, included a reception for the diplomats and eminent persons.
The final segment comprised a colourful cultural program followed by dinner.
Ambassador Monwar Hossain paid deepest respect to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his martyred family members.
He expressed his reverence to the freedom fighters of the liberation war and the oppressed women who made the highest sacrifice of their lives for independence.
He mentioned that the victory on 16th December 1971 is the most important achievement in the history of Bangladesh.
He added that the independence of Bangladesh is an outcome of a 23 years long political struggle that came at a high price through a blood soaked liberation war.
The Ambassador mentioned Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the architect and undisputed leader of this journey to independence.
Dr Hossain highlighted three aspects of today’s Bangladesh, namely: welfare democracy, ongoing development and contribution of expatriate Bangladeshis in nation building.
In the second segment, a reception was arranged for the heads of diplomatic missions in Yangon, other diplomats, representatives of UN and other International Organizations, business leaders, eminent persons of Myanmar, faculty members and students of the National University of Art & Culture in Yangon. Students of NUAC and children of the officials of the Embassy performed a dance.
A photo exhibition portraying the different stages of the Liberation War was arranged.
In the evening a colourful cultural segment, performed by the embassy officials and members of Bangladesh Community, was applauded by the guests.
Bangladesh community in Myanmar, officers and officials of the Embassy with family members attended the programme. Guests were hosted with dinner.
The Chancery premises were decorated with photos of the Liberation war, the Father of the Nation, and lighting and decorative items.
