Bangladesh Railway has decided to launch luggage van to transport vegetables from different parts of the country, Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said Wednesday.
Currently, goods and container transport through the railway has continued amid the transport shutdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, he said.
“We’ve decided to transport vegetables from marginal areas where rail connection is available and will contact with vegetable traders now,” the minister said.
The service will be provided according to the demands of the traders, he added.
Railway Director General Shamsuzzaman said they currently have 30 luggage vans which would be used to carry vegetables.
The decision came as the supply chain of vegetable market was severely disrupted due to the general holiday aimed at preventing coronavirus transmission.
