Bangladesh has slipped by one notch to 76th position among 116 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2021, released on Thursday.

The South Asian country ranked 75th out of 107 countries in the GHI 2020, while it stood 88th position in the GHI list of 117 countries in 2019.

Sharing the same position with Nepal, Bangladesh scored 19.1 out of 100, indicating a “moderate” level of hunger in the country.

Bangladesh, however, did better than South Asian countries Pakistan (92nd), India (101st), and Afghanistan (103rd).

Sri Lanka topped the ranking among the South Asian countries, occupying 65th place in the index.

Eighteen countries, including Brazil, China and Kuwait, shared the top spot with a GHI score of less than five, according to the website of the Global Hunger Index that tracks hunger and malnutrition.
