Bangladesh ranks lowest in South Asia in global talent index

Bangladesh has been ranked 123, the lowest among South Asian countries, among 134 nations in the recently-published Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2021. 

The index was published jointly by French business school INSEAD and non-profit research body Portulans Institute on Wednesday.

Among neighboring countries, the index ranked India at 88, Sri Lanka 93, Nepal 103, and Pakistan 107.

Bangladesh scored 25.3 and ranked ninth among the Central and South Asian countries in the index.

Of the 134 countries included in this year's index, 47 are high-income, 36 are upper-middle-income, 36 are lower-middle-income, and 14 are low-income countries, according to the index.

The rankings were based on seven criteria: Enable, Attract, Grow, Retain, Vocational, Technical (VT) Skills and Global Knowledge (GK) Skills.

Bangladesh was also classified as a country below the median in terms of income and one of the nine countries in Central and South Asia.
