35 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Thursday, taking the death toll to 781. Besides, 2,423 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 57,563 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Thursday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 13,788 samples were collected and 12,694 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 358,277 samples have been tested in the country.
With 571 new recoveries, a total of 12,161 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
The deceased, of whom 29 were males and six females, belonged to the following age groups: three were between 21-30, one between 31-40, three were between 41-50,14 aged between 51-60, 11 between 61-70, two between 71-80, one was between 81-90 years.
22 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 12 died at home. The remaining one was already dead when brought to hospital.
Under division-wise categorisation, 21 hailed from the Dhaka division, nine from Chattogram, two from Sylhet and one each from Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal Divisions.
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 385,873 as of Thursday morning, according to the data by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 6,429,453 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,011,039 infected patients, 2,956,839 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,200 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 3,169,243 people have recovered.
