37 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Wednesday, taking the death toll to 1,582.
Besides, 3,462 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 122,660 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 17,245 samples were collected and 16,433 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 660,444 samples have been tested in the country.
With 2,031 new recoveries, a total of 49,666 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 28 were males and nine females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, two between 21-30, two between 31-40, three were between 41-50 years, 12 were between 51-60, nine between 61-70 and eight were between 71-80 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, ten hailed from the Dhaka division, nine from Chattogram, six from Rajshahi, seven from Khulna, three from Mymensingh and one each from Barishal and Rangpur divisions.
34 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas three died at home.
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 476,911 as of Wednesday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 9,237,691 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,832,219 infected patients, 3,774,308 are in mild condition, which is 98 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 57,911 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 4,613,425 people have recovered.
