41 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Tuesday, taking the death toll to 2,709. Besides, 3,057 more people tested positive for the virus, making 210,510 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 12,149 samples were collected and 12,898 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,054,559 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 1,841 new recoveries, a total of 115,397 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 34 were males and seven females, belonged to the following age groups: one between 21-30 years, two between 31-40, six between 41-50 years, 12 between 51-60 years, 11 between 61-70, seven between 71-80 and two between 81-90 years of age.

Under division-wise categorisation, 15 hailed from the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions each, five each from Khulna and Rajshahi and one from Rangpur division.

31 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas ten died at home.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 609,198 as of Tuesday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 14,655,405 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 5,334,055 infected patients, 5,270,708 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 63,347 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 8,227,804 people have recovered.
