Bangladesh registered 31 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours till 8:00 am on Thursday, which is the lowest single-day tally in 50 days since March 24 when 25 people died of the virus, according to a release issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DGHS).

With the new deaths, the tally of Covid-19 fatalities rose to 12,076.

Besides, 1,290 more people tested positive for the virus in the 24 hours taking the caseloads to 778,687, said the directorate.

The rate of positivity now stands at 13.68 per cent and mortality rate 1.55 per cent.

The number of recoveries rose to 719,619 with 1,370 patients recovered from the disease in the 24 hours ending at 8:00 am Thursday, pushing the rate of recoveries to 92.41 per cent.

The country is currently under a lockdown which was imposed on April 5 and later extended in several phases until May 16. The nationwide lockdown is expected to be extended for another week after May 16 to reduce risks of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
