Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Major General (Retd) ATM Abdul Wahab on Sunday visited Red Crescent interventions undertaken for the Rohingya people who fled Myanmar to Cox's Bazar.
He is going to participate in various activities of the Population Movement Operation (PMO) in Cox's Bazar from September 5 to 8, reads a press release.
According to the schedule, on arrival in Cox's Bazar on September 5, he took part in a discussion meeting with the officials of the unit office. On September 6, he will inaugurate the “Lessons Learned Workshop” organised by PMO at Hotel Royal Tulip. Next, the Chairman will visit the construction site of Teknaf Maternal and Child Health Center and participate in a cash distribution program in Teknaf among the local community.
He will attend a dinner with RRRC, District Commissioner, Civil Surgeon, UNHCR Representative, ISCG Representative and other respected guests later in the evening of September 6.
On September 7, after inaugurating the coordination meeting with the representatives of all the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies participating in the Cox's Bazar activities the Honorable Chairman and his entourage will visit the Red Crescent activities in the camps for the population displaced from Myanmar.
The tour will conclude on September 8 with a discussion meeting of the PMO and MRRO.
As part of the ongoing Population Movement Operation (PMO) which began in 2017, and Myanmar Refugee Relief Operation (MRRO) began at end of 1991, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society with the assistance of IFRC and other Red Cross Red Crescent partners, is providing both camp residents and host communities living on the periphery of the camps with healthcare; water, sanitation and hygiene; shelter, livelihoods and basic needs, and disaster risk reduction support along with protection support for women and those most at risk.
In total, from the start of operations in 2017, BDRCS has supported about 1 million people.
