Bangladesh on Thursday logged 3,840 fresh Covid-19 cases till 8:00am in the last 24 hours, according to the daily Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) press release.

The death toll, for the second day in a row, touched 60-mark, with 63 deaths recorded during the period, taking the fatalities to 13,345. The victims include 9,548 men and 3,757 women.

The death toll was the highest since May 5. The mortality rate remained at 1.59 per cent.

With the updated DGHS figures, total cases in the country now stand at 8,41,087.

Meanwhile, the daily infection rate stood at 15.44 per cent.

With 62,67,657 tests carried out so far, including 24,871 new ones, the overall test positivity rate stands at 13.42 per cent, the DGHS said.

The ongoing restrictions on people’s movement, which has been extended until July 15, helped bringing down the number of cases but the situation seems to be deteriorating over the last few days.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18, 2020.

The health authorities said 7,76,466 patients, or 92.32 per cent, recovered so far from the disease with 2,714 in the last 24-hour period.
