35 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Friday, taking the death toll to 2,836.
Besides, 2,548 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 218,658 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Friday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 12,361 samples were collected and 12,027 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,091,034 samples have been tested in the country.
With 1,768 new recoveries, a total of 120,976 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 28 were males and seven females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 31-40 years, four between 41-50 years, eight between 51-60 years, 13 between 61-70, four between 71-80, three between 81-90, one between 91-100 and one was more than 100 years of age.
Under division-wise categorisation, 11 hailed from the Dhaka division, six each from Chattogram and Khulna, four each from Sylhet and Rangpur, three from Barishal and one was from the Rajshahi division.
32 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas three died at home.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 632,173 as of Friday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 15,445,043 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 5,480,099 infected patients, 5,413,843 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 66,256 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.
So far, 8,763,516 people have recovered.
