37 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Thursday, taking the death toll to 1,049. Besides, 3,187 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 78,052 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Thursday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 16,114 samples were collected and 15,772 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 457,332 samples have been tested in the country.
With 848 new recoveries, a total of 16,747 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
The deceased, of whom 30 were males and seven females, belonged to the following age groups: two were between 31-40, four were between 41-50, eight were between 51-60 years, 22 between 61-70 and one was between 71-80 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, 20 hailed from the Dhaka division, seven from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, two from Barishal, three from Sylhet and one was from the Rangpur division.
28 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while nine died at home.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 416,084 as of Thursday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
So far, 7,357,011 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,299,281 infected patients, 3,245,470 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,811 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 3,451,664 people have recovered.
