Bangladesh reports 40 more deaths, 3,868 new cases

40 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Friday, taking the death toll to 1,661. Besides, 3,868 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 130,474 confirmed cases in total. 

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Friday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 18,275 samples were collected and 18,498 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 696,941 samples have been tested in the country.

With 1,638 new recoveries, a total of 53,133 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 31 were males and nine females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 01-10 years, three between 31-40, six were between 41-50 years, 12 were between 51-60 years, 14 between 61-70, three between 71-80 years and one was between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorisation, 14 hailed from the Dhaka division, 12 from Chattogram, four each from Khulna and Barishal, and three each from Sylhet and Rangpur divisions.

31 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas nine died at home.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 488,740 as of Friday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 9,583,144 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 3,938,843 infected patients, 3,881,224 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 57,619 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 4,821,456 people have recovered.
