41 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Thursday, taking the death toll to 2,238.

Besides, 3,360 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 175,494 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Thursday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 15,862 samples were collected and 15,632 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 904,784 samples have been tested in the country.

With 3,706 new recoveries, a total of 84,544 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 29 were males and 12 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 01-10 years, one between 11-20 years, two between 31-40, three were between 41-50 years, 11 between 51-60 years, 12 between 61-70, nine between 71-80 and two were between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorisation, 12 hailed from the Dhaka division, 14 from Chattogram, six from Khulna, three from Rangpur and two each from Rajshahi, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions.

38 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas three died at home.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 548,822 as of Thursday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 12,009,301 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

So far, 6,561,969 people have recovered.
