Bangladesh reports 44 more deaths, 2,856 new positive cases

Bangladesh on Saturday (June 13) reported 44 deaths and 2,856 new positive cases for novel coronavirus over the last 24 hours. 

The latest figures take the death toll to 1,139 and the total number of infections to 84,379.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Saturday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 14,035 samples were collected and 16,638 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 489,960 samples have been tested in the country.

With 578 new recoveries, a total of 17,827 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

The deceased, of whom 33 were males and 11 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 21-30, six between 31-40, five were between 41-50, 11 aged between 51-60, 11 between 61-70, seven between 71-80 and three were between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorization, 19 hailed from the Dhaka division, 13 from Chattogram, four each from Rajshahi and Barishal, two from Sylhet and one each from Khulna and Rangpur divisions.

27 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 14 died at home. The remaining 3 were already dead when brought to hospitals.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 425,330 as of Saturday (June 13) morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

So far, 7,629,227 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 3,347,977 infected patients, 3,294,090 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,887 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

So far, 3,956,272 people have recovered.
