50 patients died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours as of Monday, taking the death toll to 2,668. Besides, 2,928 more people tested positive for the virus, making 207,453 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 13,329 samples were collected and 13,362 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,040,661 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 1,546 new recoveries, a total of 111,642 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 35 were males and 15 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 0-10 years, one between 21-30, one between 31-40 years, 11 between 41-50, nine between 51-60 years, 20 between 61-70, four between 71-80, two between 81-90 and another one was between 91-100 years of age.

Under division-wise categorisation, 21 hailed from the Dhaka division, ten from Khulna, five from Rajshahi, three from Sylhet, seven from Chattogram and two each from Rangpur and Barishal divisions.

42 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas eight died at home.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus reached 605,162 and 8,123,727 people recovered from the infection as of Monday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 14,450,223 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 5,300,151 infected patients, 5,240,334 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 59,817 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.
