Bangladesh reports 55 more deaths from coronavirus, 3,027 new cases

55 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Tuesday, taking the death toll to 2,151.

Besides, 3,027 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 168,645 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Tuesday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 13,491 samples were collected and 13,173 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 873,480 samples have been tested in the country.

With 1,953 new recoveries, a total of 78,102 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 46 were males and nine females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, two between 31-40, six were between 41-50 years, 18 between 51-60 years, 21 between 61-70, six between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorisation, 27 hailed from the Dhaka division, 12 from Chattogram, seven from Khulna, two each from Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylhet and Rangpur, and one from the Mymensingh division.

39 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 15 died at home. The remaining one was already dead when brought to the hospital.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 537,429 as of Tuesday morning, according to the data provided by the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 11,590,195 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 4,556,643 infected patients, 4,498,665 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 57,978 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 6,274,971 people have recovered.
