Bangladesh on Monday reported another 83 deaths from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest in a single day since the infection was first detected from the virus last year in March.
Meanwhile, the number of infections from the virus again hit the 7,000-mark as 7,201 new cases were detected during this period.
Director General of Health Services confirmed the matter in its daily press release.
As the government is set to enforce a strict lockdown from April 14, the ongoing nationwide lockdown, which was imposed from April 5, will remain effective until April 13 to curb the spread of coronavirus, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader earlier in the day.
Bangladesh is currently experiencing a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
