Bangladesh reports record 1,034 cases, 11 deaths in 24hrs

Bangladesh on Monday reported 1,034 new positive cases for novel coronavirus over the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day record in new infections so far, taking the toll to 15,691 in total.

Besides, 11 more people died over the last 24 hours, which makes 239 deaths in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday afternoon.

With 252 new recoveries, a total of 2,902 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 7,267 samples were collected and 7,208 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,29,865 samples have been tested in the country.

Among the 11 deceased, five were males and six females. They belonged to the following age groups: one was aged between 21-30 (Years old), two were between 31-40, two between 41-50, four between 51-60, one between 61-70, and one between 71-80.

Of the 11 deceased, eight hailed from Dhaka division, two from Chittagong division and one from Rangpur division.

Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection reached 4,101,699 all over the world as of Monday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University data.

A total of 282,709 deaths were recorded globally due to Covid-19 since the disease, caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Of the currently infected 2,404,403 patients, 2,357,371 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. 47,032 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

So far, 1,408,98 people have recovered.
