Bangladesh reports record 1,202 new infections, 15 more deaths

15 patients died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours as of Friday, taking the death toll to 298. Besides, 1,202 more people tested positive, which is the highest single-day record of new infections in the country, making 20,065 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Friday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 9,539 samples were collected and 8582 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 1,60,512 samples have been tested in the country.

With 279 new recoveries, a total of 3,882 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

Among the 15 deceased, 7 were males and 8 females. They belonged to the following age groups: one was aged between 21-30 years, one between 31-40, eight were aged between 51-60, three between 61-70, and two between 81-90.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 302,376 as of Friday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. 

So far, 4,440,989 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year. 

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition. 

Among the currently 2,518,010 infected patients, 2,472,450 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 45,560 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two. 

So far, 1,587,780 people have recovered.
