28 patients died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours as of Sunday, which is the highest single-day record of deaths in the country, taking the death toll to 480. Besides, 1,532 more people tested positive, making 31,737 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Sunday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 9,184 samples were collected and 8,908 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 2,43,583 samples have been tested in the country.
With 415 new recoveries, a total of 6,901 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 342,104 as of Sunday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 5,311,089 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, 98 percent are in mild condition.
Of the currently infected 2,815,429 patients, 2,761,862 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. 53,567 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 2,247,930 people have recovered.
