Bangladesh sees record 40 deaths, 2,545 new positive cases

Bangladesh on Sunday reported 40 deaths and 2,545 new positive cases for novel coronavirus over the last 24 hours, both of which are the highest single-day records in the country so far. The latest figures take the death toll to 650 and the total number of infections to 47,153.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Sunday.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 12,229 samples were collected and 11,876 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 308,930 samples have been tested in the country.

With 406 new recoveries, a total of 9781 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

The deceased, of whom 33 were males and 7 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 21-30, five were between 31-40, eleven between 41-50, eight between 51-60, eleven between 61-70, and four between 71-80.

Under division-wise categorization, 28 hailed from Dhaka, 8 from Chittagong, 2 Khulna, 1 from Rajshahi, and 1 from Rangpur.

Meanwhile, the global number of Covid-19 positive cases crossed 6 million as of Sunday morning, reaching 6,057,553 confirmed cases in total, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

Besides, the death toll around the world from the novel coronavirus infection reached 369,106 so far, after Covid-19, the disease caused by this new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 3,050,732 infected patients, 2,997,226 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,506 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

So far, 2,564,544 people have recovered.
