Bangladesh's passport dropped one notch on the global passport index and fell behind Myanmar and Sri Lanka, according to the recently released Henley Passport Index 2022 Q2.

In the latest index, Bangladesh ranked 104rd out of 116 spots and dropped one notch from the first quarter edition, published in January, where it ranked 103rd among 110 countries’ passports.

It shares the position with war-torn Libya and Kosovo.

Despite being under a military regime, Myanmar remains ahead of Bangladesh. It ranked 98 with the advantage of visa-free/on-arrival access to 46 destinations. Sri Lanka is having a huge economic crisis but still remains ahead of Bangladesh by holding the 91st position in the index.

Despite the decline in ranking, Bangladeshi passport holders still can travel to 40 foreign destinations without prior visas. In 2020, the number was 41.

Among the South Asian Countries, India, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan have ranked 85th, 103th and 91th, respectively, while Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan fell behind Bangladesh by taking the 106th, 112th and 116th positions, respectively.

The index includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations.

Updated quarterly, the Henley Passport Index is considered the standard reference tool for global citizens and sovereign states when assessing where a passport ranks on the global mobility spectrum.
